Plenty of anecdotes that potassium can
help prevent muscle cramps, though.
This is true. Most people believe that potassium is good or the heart,
but it's essential in the control of all muscle activity, not just the
heart muscle.
than 50 mg pills. That said, Morton® Salt Substitute is a great way to
add to drink rides; I'd use it sparingly though.
Yeah, and that's kind of a ridiculous limit on potassium pills...they
recently raised the recommended daily intake for potassium to 4700 mg / day,
so the limit on the pills seems kind of dumb. Plus, you can buy "No Salt" at
the grocery store...it's straight potassium chloride with about 700 mg / 1/4
teaspoon. I've been adding it to my own sport drink mixture for a couple of
years now, and it seems to help prevent cramps (especially on rides that are
long, hot, or hilly).
GG
Thanks for the tip, I'd rather use an zero salt product.
