I am just upgrading from a old (heavy) huffy. My legs finally got
used to the weight, and i ran into this bike for sale. its a KTM
Chicago. I am in germany, and its a Austrian bike. They want 389 euro
for it. What do you think. Is it a good deal or not, like i said... i
am upgrading from a huffy, and dont know much about bikes.
Frame: Aluminium 7005
Nothing special, lots if not most frames are aluminum at this price point.
Fork: Suntour XC60 Travel: 75mm
Rear derailleur: Shimano Acera SmartCage
Very low priced Shimano derailleur
Shifter: Shimano EF35 Schalthebel EasyFire mit Ganganzeige 1 - 7
Front changer: Shimano C050 Top-Swing, Top-Route
Chain: KMC IG31 Schaltungskette HG Type
Rear sprocket: Shimano ZH37 Freilaufzahnkranz geschraubt 7-fach
7 speed screwed on freewheel. This is old technology, screwed on freewheels
are more difficult to remove than cassettes, especially if you've ridden the
bike a bunch. Broken axles are more likely to occur on freewheel hubs than
on modern cassette hubs
Rear ratic: 7-fach 14 - 34
nice wide range of gears
Front Ratic: 3-fach 42-34-24
Chainring set: Shimano M340
Inner bearing: Shimano UN25 BSA Kompaktlager
Brake lever: Shimano Aluhebel, Griffweite einstellbar
brake levers with adjustable grip span are nice if you have really small
hands, otherwise no big deal
Front brake: Tektro 837AL V-Brake mit Powermodulator
Rear brake: Tektro 837AL V-Brake mit Powermodulator
Front Hub: KT Alunabe mit Schnellspanner
Rear Hub: KT Alunabe mit Schnellspanner
Spokes: DT-Champion Nirostaspeichen 2mm
No mention of these on the DT website. If they are stainless steel
(rostfreie stahl) they'll be more durable than old style galvanized steel.
Rim: Weinmann ZAC 2000 Alu-Hohlkammerfelge 26", schwarz
"Hollow chamber rim". Is this a box section rim? If so it'll be a lot more
durable than the single wall rims found on most low end bikes.
Tyres: Ritchey SpeedMax Reifen 26"x 1.9 Alfa & Omega
Headset: Ritchey A-Head-Zerostack-System, integriert
The problem with integrated headsets is that if you pit the bearing race you
can't replace it, like you can with a non-integrated headset.
Stem: Aera A-Head-Vorbau 25°
Handlebar: Aera MTB-Lenker 5°
Pedals: VP-992 MTB-Pedal, symetrisch
Saddle: Selle Royal Viper, Renna Bezug
Seat post: Kalloy SP-359 Alu Patent, Schelle mit Schnellspanner
?389 (=$470-$480?) sounds a bit high by US standards, maybe not in Europe.
The bike will definitely be an improvement over your Huffy. If the shop does
a careful job of assembling and prepping it and fitting you to it than you
could probably have a fair bit of fun on easy off pavement rides and
cruising around town, doing short commutes and short shopping trips. In
other words, probably a very good entry level bike.
