I believe what we're experiencing now will only get worse if we continue to egregiously pump CO2 into the atmosphere.

Global Warming is the real name of Katrina and Rita's wrath. More
warmth, more hurricane serverity. This is accepted basic climate
science.

George W. Bush cannot be held responsible for the hurricanes, that's
just silly--but he needs his feet held to the fire when it comes to
environmental responsibility. It's only going to get worse.

Why were there more hurricanes in the 1930's & 1950's? Was it in anticipation of evil GWB just being born?

What the article refers to, of particular relevance, should you choose to read it is,

"The growing violence of storms such as Katrina, which wrecked New Orleans, and Rita, now threatening Texas, is very probably caused by climate change, said Sir John Lawton, chairman of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. Hurricanes were getting more intense, just as computer models predicted they would, because of the rising temperature of the sea, he said. "The increased intensity of these kinds of extreme storms is very likely to be due to global warming."
and

"Sir John's comments follow and support recent research, much of it from America itself, showing that hurricanes are getting more violent and suggesting climate change is the cause.

A paper by US researchers, last week in the US journal Science, showed that storms of the intensity of Hurricane Katrina have become almost twice as common in the past 35 years."

and

"he said: "There are a group of people in various parts of the world ... who simply don't want to accept human activities can change climate and are changing the climate."

"I'd liken them to the people who denied that smoking causes lung cancer.""

and

The number of hurricanes varies from year to year - but what is clear is the *intensity* of storms is on the increase and the growing scientific consensus is that anthropogenic global warming is the cause.
