Well, that's not Usenet. Usenet is merely 1 protocol (news: or NNTP).
You are talking about the Internet or "the last mile" as the technical
types like to say.

Well, the last hundred yards, ISPs, and even last inch (MS OE)
have made bar lower for twiddling bits in NNTP fashion.

At my first "real job", we used a threaded reader (notes?) in the
early 80s for tracking discussion topics concerning S/W
development, problem reports, feature requests, design
discussions, etc... My first NNTP exposure was a
few years and a couple of jobs later.

Most people are net.ungulates, grazers.

True. But some are net.Warhol-famers. %^)

87? Yeah I can read that. It tells me that you are going thru Henry's
machine, thru other buddies at UUnet, a couple of GE (old school)
machines etc.

Yes, it's been a while. Both technology and culture have
changed. A lot.

search, threading, cancelling, killfiling, etc.
Hell many people are just incapable of skipping.

Some ways, it's like neighborhoods, though. If you know
what to ignore/filter, some places can be reasonable
gathering places. The kerb/curb appeal suffers, however.

Remember: it's a computer network. It's by and for geeks.

For the masses, by Bill, etc.

Hot here, but I have new problems for this weekend with
possible fire closures (Doug would exclaim its govt. control
which it is but residents of that area would likel go for it with
the fires we are having).

No closures in my favorite N NM areas. Hope to get there
early in fall, but may have to settle for something closer to
home. Hoped to get some trail time in with my brother.

Friends in NZ have some complaints about certain limits.

Yes, it's their version of protectionism.

Join the Kiwis.

Some limits are commercial, market related.

Survived. Paddling is like pedaling, its all about the
cadence and the "gearing". I'm a novice, but I got better.

Wheels.

For portaging? Not allowed in the uppercase-W Wilderness
areas we were in.

But for paddling, keeping up a cadence, a rhythm, and
varying attack angle and pull seemed to work for me. Only had
wind for "hills", no currents to speak of on lakes. But
some lakes in BWCA are really big and whitecaps and big
waves are challenging for us novices.

But I really have to get out climbing

I'm planning an early start Saturday just before sunrise.

(I do have a memorial to get to as well).

Sic transit gloria mundi.
