I have a three blade Warp Drive composite prop that has a tiny ding on
the tip of one of the blades. It's just beginning to separate ever so
slightly and I'd like to stop this in it's tracks. I've read all
through the group about the baking soda and super glue fix and I'm
going to try it. Is one kind of super glue better than another for
this?
If it's starting to separate I'd send the prop back to Warp Drive for
evaluation. I don't know that much about WD props, but I watched a
Kolb crash when the repaired (yes, superglue and baking soda) Powerfin
prop came apart on takeoff (he pancaked it in from about 50'; the
pilot was seriously injured while the passenger (a guy on his very
first "introductory lesson") wasn't hurt.
For minor dings in wood props I prefer microballoons (powdered
fiberglass, available at any good hobby shop) to baking soda, and I
use the thinnest glue available, NOT gel (you want it to wick in and
soak the filler).
