Re: Pressure Alt, Density Alt questions...

Cruise altitude is always the indicated altitude with the
local altimeter setting, or at the transition altitude
[18,000 feet in the USA, lower in Europe, maybe 2,000
meters] you fly Flight Levels FL180, FL270, etc.
You use density altitude to determine performance, such as
true airspeed and rate of climb.

| Still Confused-
|
| Lets say I want to climb to 4,500 feet from an elevation
of 100 feet.
| The alt is 30.1 (correction of -165). Here is my
question...
|
|
| 1. Do I correct my elevation down to PA, which would
be -65 feet,
| then go up to 4,500 feet
|
| -or-
|
| 2. Do I correct my elevation like above, and also correct
my cruise
| as well?
|
| For some reason, I am thinking that because I already
corrected my
| elevation in 1., all future values will be already given
with that
| correction built in, so one would be the proper way...
|
| My instructor taught me to correct both takeoff elevation
and cruise
| elevation...for some reason, i think thats not
accurate....in the end,
| its pennies as far as accuracy...but i want to understand
this right.
|
| thanks
