Are used in US aviation.

Knots/Mach for horizontal speed

Nothing random about mach. It's extremely important
when approaching 1.0.

Degrees C for temperature

Only a recent change.

UTC for time zone

What's odd about UTC?

The rest just represents the origins of flight in the US
and the parallels with nautical navigation from which much
was derived.

Degrees is pretty much ingrained for geodesy even places
where the metric system is prevalent.
