Why a First Class medical? This is a student pilot groupJim
and you asked a question that should be obvious to any "old"
person. If your eyesight has suddenly failed, it could be
diabetes, or some other disease. Pilots use bi-focals and
tri-focals. Some pilots need glasses for near or distant
vision, some for both.
I am fairly fresh private pilot down under. Slowly working on my Commercial
licence. But I still consider myself a student and I am always learning
things from this group. I like to think I am a very young 46 year old in
pretty good nick. Why the class 1?, well we have some strange taxation
rules down here, in fact they are so strange that not even the flying
organisations have the same interpretation of them. Basically if you are
working towards a commercial licence in australia the flying may be exempt
from 10% GST ( goods and services tax , I think you guys call it VAT or
something like that). Anyways my school requires you to have a Class 1
medical before they will consider you as a bona fide commercial student..
I certainly dont have diabetes , I just had the eye test today and was told
it was simply age related short sightedness.
