All is well? No. Not everyone is as "lucky" as you and others.
And not everyone is as "unlucky" as you and others.
true. I read posts like yours from people who just love their windows
computers. There are even a (very) small number of people at work like that.
It's funny. For the most part, the only people who claim these kinds of
problems with Windows are people who are obviously predisposed to dislike
Windows software anyway.
You don't recognize that there are people who dislike Windows because of
their experience with it? It's not a matter of being predisposed. It's been
a matter of learning and experienceing the poor quality of the product
(poor being a relative term).
Ya know, in my building at work it's all windows (except for three? computers).
Out of all of these users and the support techs, there are only a handful that
will leap to the defense of their windows machine and microsoft in general.
I guess you'd argue that the rest are all predisposed.
It's as if because they hate Windows so much, they
intentionally abuse their computers, visiting all the bad parts of the web
to get various viruses and worms, installing the worst drivers, and
generally neglecting their PC.
In my case, my windows laptop is entirely managed by the government. I don't
install anything on it. I don't administer it in any way. Thus, you cannot
claim that I abuse it in anyway. Yet, explorer does crash, not everyday but
still way more than other browsers that I use. And the ms office apps do
crash. And the government pushes updates to the machine, with resulting
reboots required.
I've got three PCs running Windows XP and another running Windows 2000.
None have any sort of regular crashing problems, ever, nor do they require
constant rebooting. One of the XP computers and the Windows 2000 computer
are desktop PCs and are left running 24/7. The other two are laptops and
they get hibernated regularly, and rebooted more often simply because it's
more convenient (a shutdown is one of the easiest ways to go ahead and
install the Windows updates that have been downloaded).
With all the security patches and updates pushed down to my windows laptop
at work, I cannot ever expect to avoid multiple reboots weekly even if the
computer didn't crash.
Jim's post is right on the money. Crashes in Windows are practically always
due to buggy hardware drivers, usually video or audio. Windows itself is
fine, and if you have problems with it crashing all the time or requiring
regular reboots, it's because of some third-party software you installed,
NOT because of Windows itself.
I love the claim that Window itself is fine. An OS without applications is an
interesting piece of trivia. To be useful, a computer must have applications
and utilities. Are you saying that we should only run apps from microsoft on
our windows computers? Oh wait, that's pretty much what I have.
and Jim claimed that all would be fine if only you have a windows xp
computer. That simply is not true.
