Because they use decently programmed newsreader software that shows the
messages in thread context without any quotes? <d&r>

But... As the messages get spread between servers there is no
guarantee the messages will be in the proper order. It's quite common
to find them out of order, or even find a number of answers to a
question before the original post shows up.
In this news group I've seen as many as 6 or 7 posts show up before
the original.

No news reader is going to put those back in order or for the ones
whos computer clock is off by a bunch.


OTOH enough of them show up in order just to make it misleading.
