Aerobatic demonstrations are choreographed well in advance. If you
watch the pilots just before they take off you will see them walking
through their programmes.
In general those who wantonly exceed the envelope don't do so for very
long before they get pranged.
Which is precisely what happened in this case, the Board of Inquiry, which
reported in November 1996, determined that the captain made an error
of judgement in modifying one of the display manoeuvres to the extent that
he stalled the aircraft at a height and attitude from which recovery
was impossible.
