IMO, the US civil war was way more stupid than Stalins pre
WW2, cuz Stalin had the sense to prepare the USSR for what
he for saw as an eventual attack by the Nazi's, and he did well
to prepare the USSR for that, within the alloted time and resources.

Lets see

The US emerges from the Civil War with the Union intact, slavery
abolished
a massively increased industrial base and with a military that
was one of
the most powerful in the world.

Keith, you're advocating a civil war to improve the US military
and industrial base, you won't get my vote.

I'm advocating nothing, just observing the results.

"results"
We note Keith ignored (or is unaware of) the 600,000 - 1,000,000
killed and the $billions of property damage, to build munitions
plants,
soon to be closed down.

Stalin's purges crippled Soviet Industry, set back Soviet science a
generation
and all but destroyed the command and control ability of the red army
resulting in a force that could do little more than defend doggedly
or launch costly frontal attacks. Then his orders meant the red army
along the frontiers were unable to respond effectively to the German
attack.

Sorry I just dont buy your theory.

We're victims of cold-war propaganda, though in my case, as a
*serious* history student, sorted that out in high school.
You'll need a broader base of intelligence than just the local rags
the govmonks spoon-feed the unwashed masses.

I have more intelligence than that including the accounts
of Soviet Citizens I talked to in the 70's. There is no doubt
at all that Stalin's purges very badly damaged the fighting efficiency
of the Red Army

The purges removed three of five marshals , 13 of 15 army commanders,
eight of nine admirals, 50 of 57 army corps commanders, 154 out of 186
division commanders, All16 army commissars, and 25 of 28 army corps
commissars.

So far Keith, you rely on Enron's accounting, your data in meaningless
as it is not factual.

It didnt stop there , commanders down to battalion level were eliminated.
In warfare such a strike against an enemies command and control is
the ideal decapitation scenario. Stalin did it himself.

I'm afraid Keith, you do not understand Russian intelligence as I do,
the Soviets report want they want you to hear, and carefully guard the
truth. You do know Canada, US and England invaded the USSR and
lost do you? So in what way are they obligated to provide the truth,
that you call facts?

It's not my thoery, learn to find the facts.

Pot Kettle Black

Start with Viktor Suvorov and his book 'The Cleansing'
Then read the pronouncements of Khruschev and others
after the death of Stalin

Move on to the findings of the Shvernik Commission an official
Soviet commision of inquiry which found

"Stalin committed a very grave crime against the Communist party, the
socialist state, Soviet people and worldwide revolutionary movement...
Together with Stalin, the responsibility for the abuse of law, mass
unwarranted repressions and death of many thousands of wholly innocent
people also lies on Molotov, Kaganovich, Malenkov"
Keith

Keith, nothing you've regurgitated is a fact, all you've done is
propagate propaganda.
Check some facts:
Battle of Moscow, Battle of Stalingrad, T-34 quality & quantity, etc.
Soviets obviously had the highest production in WW2, then Mig-15,
atomic & H bomb, Sputnik.
We should keep in mind the 30's had a Depression & bad weather,
and hit everybody hard.
See the BIG picture and connect the dots, those facts need to be
accounted for.
Ken

The battles of Moscow and Stalingrad would have been over more quickly,
or even have been forestalled, had Stalin not perpetrated the Purges.

If the Russians (Soviets) had the highest production in WW2, what were
all those Murmansk convoys for?

The USSR relied on their agents within Tube Alloys and the Manhattan
project for their A-bomb design.

Once again, none of what you Peter wrote above are facts, it's
someones
hearsay. Having done business in Canada and Ontario I know the
govmonks
consistently lie, I'll trust Enron before I'd trust a Canuck
govmonkey.

The MiG 15 was powered by what was basically a Rolls-Royce Nene.

Yes, the Brit's copied the Russian Nene equivalent. Englishmen are
better
liar's than Russians, and tend to take credit for everybody else's
inventions.
Ken

That is so ludicrous, it's almost funny.

You are either a troll or seriously deluded.

Or perhaps you're our resident German superiority freak's Russian
cousin?

Peter, didn't you know the reason the Russian P-39s were so
successfull was that they were re-engined with the Nene? ;-)
