This question is for the F-4 community (it's for a model project-a Hasegawa

pylons and still have a TER for Mark-82s, Rockeyes, etc? Or was it a case of
either one, but not both? TIA.

Yes, this was a common loadout. Needed a bit of kit that moved the
AIM-9 rails out about 6 inches from the pylon; if I remember correctly
they were just cylindrical spacers fore and aft.

If you have access to a TO 1F-4E-34-1-1, it will show all the
details. Mine is at home, but I'm not, if you still need the info I
can try to send you an image later this week.

Oddly enough, this is still a problem on the F-15E (probably a legacy
of "Not a pound for air-to-ground" F-15A design); if you direct mount
some weapons (GBU-15s and GBU-12s, for example) on the wing pylons,
you can carry but can't fire AIM-9s off the rails due to fin
interference. Not a big problem, since you still have the CFTs for
AIM-120s, and usually load fuel tanks on the wings and a/g weapons on
the CFT anyway. Not sure if the short wings on the AIM-9X solves this
problem.

BTW, a really nice contemporary (1980s) loadout on an ARN-101 F-4E
would be 4xAIM-9Ps (no Ls, unfortunately), 3xAIM-7E3, Pave Spike Laser
designator, CL Hi-G fuel tank, and 4 GBU-10s or 12s direct mounted on
the inboard and outboard stations. Real clean load (no draggy TERs to
lug around), good hitting power, and respectable A/A capability for
self defense.
