generation were considered obsolete by the middle of WW2, but the

who may be considered as the first of it, was improved and kept going
until the end of the war.
Then after WW2 the Spanish had ones with Hispano engines, and
examples
also served in vaious air forces well into the 1950s.
On the other hand, the Spitfire was in squadron service in 1939 and was still flying combat missions (as the Seafire) in Korea...
