What's worse is when they start playing dramatic music in the
background.
They almost all do it. Fox, CNN...

What kind of music is dramatic music?

Any sort of music in a straight news broadcast or "feature" is dramatic
music and probably violates the ethics of straight journalism.
Technically, though, it's usually in a diminished or minor key to give
that
dark, ominous effect. Do we need to hear Adaggio for Strings or Wagner
to
watch video clips of our soldiers fighting in combat?

And what's wrong about the media telling the public things they think
the
public might be interested in hearing about?

If they require music to tell the story, they're not telling it straight,
and it should set off your propaganda meter. (Regardless of whether it's
pro- or anti-issue.)

If you don't like the way your newspaper or radio/TV news station is
presenting the news, why don't you just change stations or newspapers as
a
means of letting them know that you don't like what you're seeing or
hearing, or write them a letter or call them on the phone or send them an
email? Bitching about their >style here isn't going to change
anything....

Who says I don't? I have a degree in journalism and worked in broadcast
and print journalism. Civilian and military. I'm just telling you how
it
is. If they have to underscore a story with music, they're doing it for
dramatic value. For example, there was no dramatic music when the planes
hit the towers. Invariably, though, the Troofers and the media networks
will add some music to their stories the way movies and TV shows will, but
when they do it in the movies it's to set a mood, to foreshadow or to
elicit
an emotion or response from the viewer. That's drama, not news. If a
publisher or producer is using music to inject drama, they're doing it to
manipulate you and captivate viewers.

So, I guess that I can safely conclude that you're a journalism weenie who
thinks there's a conspiracy afoot (yeah, another one of those) among outlet
owners and who hasn't got enough clout in that profession to effect or cause
any changes in its practices and that you're bitching here because it makes
you feel good or important to disapprove of whatever doesn't meet your
standards. If you can't tolerate what the current practice is on TV or
radio news stations, seems to me that you have a few options available to
you, i.e. - (1) change the station, (2) if you can't find one that suits
you, turn your TV or radio off, (3) buy your own station and do whatever
you like on it, (4) become your NG's self appointed style-nanny and keep
on belaboring us about the media's perceived failures, as is your God given
right under the constitution or (5) kwitcherbitching and accept what is as
a reality of life, like it or not, and give us all a break by moving on.

From time to time, it pleases me to call a spade a spade as I see it and
this is one of those times. You don't have to agree if you don't want to,
but I do it anyway because that's my God given right under the constitution.
Now can we move on and hopefully get back to something more closely related
to military aviation than journalistic practices?

BTW, I been hanging around this place for quite a while and don't remember
seeing your handle on anything posted here until recently. What's your
connection with the wild blue yonder that prompted you to appear here? Or
don't you have any and you simply decided to troll in these waters just to
see what bites? Enquiring minds want to know......
