SNIP:>
Why in the hell would the DOD even think about purchasing an AirbusSNIP:
tanker ? ( fucking communist idea )
There is a very pertinent 'Father knows best' design philosophy Airbus
uses throughout its aircraft that to me, as it should to all pilots,
bar the acceptance of their air machines. Built right into the flight
and engine controls systems are artificial limits - both engines and
airplane could perform right up to their physical limits but Airbus,
in adherence to French 'dirigiste' (I know better than you)
principles, deliberately restricts the ability of the systems to
perform. Thus in case of something as simple as wind shear, a Boeing
plane will lt you get all it can give you. The Airbus will say 'No
More' and - sorry about that - Father knows best . . .you can shove
the throttles forward to the firewall, you can move the flight
controls to their stops, but the computers will still limit you
artificially, forex, rate of thrust rise, total thrust, degrees of
bank, pitch and G. Boeing makes it all there on tap if you need it.
And when you need it, you will need everything the airplane has to
give you.
As a horrible example - the Airbus 320 that was flown into the ground
during an exhibition flight by Air France's chief 320 pilot. Certainly
he did err, but the limitation on spool-up time surely had something
to do with the accident.
So - how does Airbus sell their airplanes? They make deals 'no one can
refuse' by even selling at a loss. After all, what government ever ran
at a profit?
Vive Boeing! A bas Airbus.
