It seems that these authors failed to mention the rebirth of the
Me-110 as a night fighter and its significant role in decimating
British bombers in the night campaign. I wonder why the writing in the
1960s and 1970s tended this way with regard to the Me-110?
After all there wasn't so much written on the problems of the P-38
(which I love) in doing long range escort in Northern Europe. Nor are
the problems with using the justifiably esteemed Mosquito in South
East Asia and its wooden construction spoke of that often. I mention
these two fine machines to show that all was good news about the
Mosquito and Lightning, while the Me-110 seems to end its story in
September 1940. Of course anyone who delves into it knows otherwise,
but the general military aviation books kept at this partial story
about the Me-110 a long time.

Decimating is hardly the word.
RAF bomber strength continued to increase during the course of the
war.
Had the 110 and other night fighters decimated Bomber Command like the
day fighters and flak guns totally rendered the 8th Air Force
inoperable in 90 days of combat there would like be a whole lot more
written about them.
Even so, not every 110 during the BoB was easy to take on. It depended
on the pilot's abilities and experience in type. Some of them could
give any Hurri or Spit a run for it's money.
