Regardless of that anecdotal incident, the best determinant of what a
chief executive is worth will continue to be the stock holders/investors
and not some egalitarian governmental bureaucrat.

Let's not forget that the common US model you describe here is not
applicable world-wide. Japanese companies, for instance, have
perfected the way of running the business without having to worry
about the interference of stock-holders.
