You apprear to be confused. You give far more credence to this
technology than it deserves. The use of LSD in MKULTRA is
unfortunate. But that bit of 'mind control' can be had on any street
corner in America for a few bucks from any local teen. So, why all
the hand wringing.. as far as voices in your head and other auditory
hallucinations? Well, by far the most common cause is schizophrenia -
with millions of people affected

But the technology to create voices in the head is rather benign - and
again uncontroversial and effective as a mind control device only to
the very naive - which today with ipods and the like - is unlikely.

But the techniques are cool. .

FM radio is more than a static free version of AM radio. FM radio
beats two frequencies against one another to get a lower frequency
signal out. FM modulation demodulation.

You can do this with audio waves as well! And this is the secret to
ventriliquism of a whole new order.. Two high frequency ultrasonic
beams cross at a point in space - individually they cannot be heard,
but when they beat against one another - the resultant frequency is
produced. And using an FM modulator you can cast a voice to a precise
spot.

I have even given some thought about how to make an ultrasonic audio
hologram using this appraoch. A planar array of ultrasonic speakers
is controlled by a computer to create a rich 'far field' pattern of
sound in a target volume.

But the voices in the head trick is something that's easily
achieved.

And it can be startling when you hear it for the first time.. My old
graduate advisor lived on a hilltop at an old farm in Ohio. I used to
go visit him on the weekends and we'd talk of things that interested
us.

He used to sit on his patio at the top of the hill and watch cars
drive up the hill.

He had installed two parabolic dishes equipped with ultrasonic
speakers - attached to an FM modulator. Aiming them there was a
trick. He had a remote control joystick for each dish,and aimed them
generally. Then he'd set up a tone and walk his property and adjust
the crossing point of the two beams by sound - then he'd go up to his
patio at the house.

When someone would come up the hill and park and then proceed by foot
he woud turn on the FM modulator and speak in a microphone (he had one
of the parabolic dishes set up as a boom mike so he could hear his
quarry as well as speak to them) haha..

I suppose if you crossed the ultrasound beams inside one's ears or
inside your head, you'd get a voice there. But if you move your head
while they're talking - the effect would be lost since the voice would
come from a specific spot. I suppose modern devices could track head
movement and combined with stress producing drugs I suppose you could
produce psychological effects - perhaps even create symptoms that when
reported by the target to doctors might be interpreted by them as
evidence of schizophrenia. But of course voices in the head are only
part of the story there - there are other symptoms of the disease and
one symptom alone does not produce a diagnosis. haha.. And such
drugs are easily accomodated in most modern people's experience
(triple latte please!) these days.

So, I read your commentary here and have to say that its overwrought.
And its not that easy to make voices in your head. Although I do
think it would be cool for a singer to use the technique to walk
through an audience holographically! haha.. Or as an audio adjunct to
a 3D display system
