There was one in the Flying Lady hangar in Morgan Hill, CA. At least it
was there the last time I wandered over, some time after the restaurant
closed down.
That one is not a YO-3 -- it is the proof of concept craft and is a
one-only design. It has a Wankel-type engine, driving a long shaft,
radiator in front
Yep, that's the one.
and is for sale in Trade-A-Plane.
Still? I'm having trouble remembering how long ago the restaurant closed
down, and keep coming back to my youngest being barely able to bike the
distance from our house (about four miles)...and he's 24 now.
It has been 10-15 years, at least. Irv Perlich was a maverick -- he
often built things without building permits. One of those capers finally
bit him, when a deck collapsed and a number of people injured -- (even a
fatalaty, IIRC). Well, the lawyers got hold of this one and hung him out
to dry.
He insisted on running the kitchen himself, rather than hiring a really
good chef, so the food suffered, too. Had he done so, he would have had
a lot more regular customers; had he paid attention to his legal
liabilities too, he would probably still be in business.
Even so, the "Flying Lady" was a fun place to visit (occasionally).
