Several years ago, they built a new law enforcement center in Jamestown,
they had a grand opening for it, and during the tour I noticed that the
basement had about for times as many support pillers as one would
expect, and all the plumbing had accordion joints on it. Our tour guide
explained that the whole basement is a huge shock resistant fallout
shelter for North Dakota's government to go to in time of a impending
nuclear attack, as Jamestown was not considered a likely target; after
we built that place and told everyone about it, I imagine we now _are_ a
likely target. :-)

I was shocked to see my birth town on the hit list. Who would of thought
that a town without any active Refineries (not so these days) would be on
the list because it had an old rusting Refinery near it. Wow, a town with
less than 100k (at that time) just couldn't have any military or economic
importance. Wrong, the refinery could have been put back into operation,
the oil well transports as well as a major Regional RR line passed through.
Shoot, all of a sudden, many targets came onto the grid. Many more,
probably, than the Soviets had warheads. But the question remained, which
ones would be hit and which ones would be spared.

At one time, ND was pretty well a huge SAC Missile base and those sites
strung all through that state made almost everything a target.
