The best light infantry MG of the war, although, its rate of fire was
so high it went through LOTS and LOTS of ammo. Variants are still in

1,300-1,500 rpm! I hope the German Army doesn't get rid of it. They
recently added the MG-43 (aka redesignated MG-4) to their infantry as
LMG and were working on a HK Caseless MG in the 1980s. Currently,
Rheinmetall AG is working on a battlefield plasma rifle, but if that
gets perfected then all firearms will change. The Electric Gun idea
has also resurfaced as well as Australia's Metal Storm caseless
weapons which can outfire a Vulcan. One 36 barrel model fired over 1
million rpm in the 1990s and they have a pistol with fingerpring ID
that can fire 4,000 rpm and has multiple barrels for different
calibers. All you have to do is switch whenever you want. Since all
the rounds are in a caseless stick and fired by programmed electronic
ignition, the calibers and rpms can be altered at will.
