WASHINGTON: Cutting funding for the Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 Joint
Strike Fighter could unleash a spiral of schedule delays and cost
growth, U.S. Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne said on Tuesday.
"Here we are with a program that is actually working ... It's meeting
its goals, it's meeting its timelines, it's meeting its technology
requirements," Wynne told reporters.
What are they willing to give up to keep it?
Why not push the entire branch into the reserves?
Their planes will last longer if they don't fly them as often and the pay and benefits for part-time warriors can be cut without hurting anyone.
It's not like the Air Force is being heavily tasked anywhere, so they might as well stay at home. They can just deploy Expeditionary Air Wings from the USA as needed. And maybe they'll actually be able to intercept something, the next time the homeland's attacked.
Lastly, by flooding the civilian pilot market with warriors who train once a month, the next Islamic terrorist who tries to take over a cockpit might find a little surprise when he gets there.
