I have never seen an AF (or any other service) base without an
Education Services Office that offers classes on base from local and
other (U of MD, Chapman U, etc) right there on base, with lunchtime
classes, night classes, weekend classes, or
Get-Me-Enough-Students-And-We-Will-Teach-Anything-Anywhere classes.
In my career, I took classes there, taught some, took off-base classes
at Univ extensions, correspondence courses (before the internet or
video tape courses), etc.
With mimimum hours and USAFI enc-of-course tests, I qualified for AECP
and was sent full time to university to get (while on active duty) a EE
in 27 months. After OTS, I went straight to grad school, for a MSSE,
again on active duty.
There are educational opportunities everywhere. You have to work
really hard to avoid them.
cheers
