It's called JROTC and it does exist. It doesn't lead directly to a
commission.

IIRC, in my time in JROTC (late 70's) it did give PFC out of basic or
AIT.

Okay, second try at responding since Outlook ate the first one...AFAIK
completion of at least three years of JROTC saw you enlisted at E-3
paygrade, but you did not put the stripes on until after completing
basic--you got the pay though.

No....junior ROTC in high schools did not exist during WWII.

But even in 1977 we drilled with plugged 1903s. And shot .22s in the range
in the high school basement, too. Different times, then.
