There wasnt a directional blast. The KE did a fair bit of structural
damage to the outer ring but most of the destruction was caused
by the fire that was started by the atomised jet fuel. That would
have burned off relatively quickly but the office furnishings etc
provided a higher fuel load and sustained the fire.

The Pentagon is a fairly typical 40's concrete building that
was built with relatively strong floors as it was expected to end up
as a warehouse after the war was over.
