Re: Why does Juan support Zoom?

Mick,

All the evidence I have seen in nearly five years of dealing with him says
the exact opposite, Mick. He enjoys quite a bit of respect in the aviation
industry, from all aspects of it -- vendors, manufacturers, performers,
industry advocates, etc. He is a colorful character, and he has his
eccentricities, like anyone else who chooses to do what he does at the high
profile he needs to do it, but most of what is said about him here I've
found to be completely devoid of any redeeming purpose, and usually
motivated by personal agendas.

For example, this statement of yours that "This seems to be the opinion of
1000s of other intelligent people..." is nothing but a personal opinion
based on what others have told you. What do you do if someone calls you on
that statement and asks you to provide the evidence on which you base your
opinion? All I have to do, on the other hand, is point to the list of
sponsors that work with Jim, or ask you to go through the list of vendors
and participants on the NBAA, Airventure, AOPA, AEA, Heli-Expo, Arlington or
any of the other activities he attends and covers with various team sizes
and tell you to start calling them and find out what they think of Jim and
Aero-News. I've been to every single one of those, and more, more than once,
and he is always treated as a respected member of the aviation industry and
a professional journalist. How many other members of the gaggle do you think
can claim they are so much as recognized at all those shows?

Those who run Sun-N-Fun have a good reason to hate Jim (and the local
general media) -- they were exposed as corrupt people, and even got caught
with their pants down lying to the IRS as well as to the Polk County Tourism
Board (on the issue of attendance figures used to obtain tourism funds for
the show, a story published by the Lakeland Ledger on March 18, 2003 where
it was found the SNF management was grossly inflating the numbers... they
claimed 645,000 in the tourism board filing, but told the IRS the number was
actually 400,000 less). They also recently almost lost their tax-exempt
status when they accepted a donation of official cars for use at the show
with stickers affixed on the vehicles supporting a political candidate.

>From a personal point of view, Jim has never let me down and has never, ever
failed to meet his obligations towards me. Of course, I have treated him the
same way. That might explain some of the people out there who complain Jim
hasn't paid them or has not done something he agreed to do. Jim values
loyalty as much as I do and will bend over backwards to help and support the
people who are loyal friends and support him. He also doesn't take it
lightly when people don't live up to their agreements.

Apparently all you know about me is what you've read from the useless gaggle
that frequents this newsgroup and spends most of their time whining about
this or that. You might be interested in knowing that the whole issue of me
and Zoom on this board was started, without any provocation, by someone who
has admitted right here, in public, that such was the case -- he came out of
nowhere and attacked me just because I said I was now writing for Aero-News.
That was Chuck S. I gave him the opportunity to apologize and move on, he
refused to take it and went right back to his old ways. I believe you can
draw your own conclusions from that, given that you seem to know the
difference between the men and the boys.

If there's one piece of information that says whom you should believe (and
respect), it's the Katrina response. After the storm, Jim spent weeks with
the GA and Angel Flight efforts to help the victims, both as pilot as well
as crew, and of course reporting what was going on on the ground and in the
air. Ask the members of the gaggle who live anywhere near the region what
they were doing at the time, and compare. Simple exercise, no?

Fair enough answer?

Semper Fi, bro.
Juan
