We have a 1992 Ford Explorer that has 180,000 miles on it. It stays
parked in a storage lot and is only used to tow our small boat to the
lake nearby,,,so it is used very seldom. We do start it and run it for a
few moments every other week and have never had a problem with it until
last week when we tried to start it and it wouldnt start up. It cranks
fine but does not fire. It is a 4.0 V-6 with a manual transmission. We
even tried jumping the battery and the engine just cranks fine but does
not fire up. There is gas in it. Any ideas?
You need spark. Pull a plug out and look at it when you crank. Is it
firing?
You need gas. Does the tailpipe smell like gas? Is gas getting into the
cylinders? Odds are if it has been sitting that the gas is full of
thick and gunky varnish, unless you normally keep fuel stabilizer in the
tank. Is there pressure at the fuel rail? Is the fuel filter a solid
block of goo?
