Re: Pinging noise from under car at certain RPM - any idea what it may be?

If during acceleration it is likely detonation, otherwise known as ping, spark-knock or east of the atlantic, pinking. If the car has detonation detection, the detection system may not be working properly. Or, if it does NOT have detection, it may be a fault in the spark timing. To see if it is spark knock, try a tankful of the highest octane gas you can find in your area, and see if it eliminates or at least reduces the knock.

Anyone know what a pinging(?) noise from under the car around 1500 RPM during acceleration may be?

(The sound is suggestive of something lightly striking a hollow metal object, something like 3 times a second. No idea what actually makes the noise.)

The car is automatic, about 9 years old.

MAKE AND MODEL PLEASE!!! Caplock key/shouting deliberate.
