True that. But JJ and JG are both scoring points and will likely get
into the Chase. At that point everything's up for grabs. And its
always possible that HMS could issue team orders to sacrifice Mears as a
way of making sure the drivers of preference get what they need. It
doesn't take Enzo Ferrari to help figure out how that works.
Sacrifice Mears? He already doesn't have anything JJ and JG need.
He's on the altar with the knife poised above....

Exactly my point. HMS puts him out on the track to "run interference"
with the other contenders. It doesn't take much to put someone a lap
down. Then he could provide JG and JJ with something the need.- Hide quoted text -

I can't see that happening. I think Mears himself wouldn't do it.
It's unfortunate that he hasn't been top dog with an owner, but maybe
he's done that to himself. I think he's a very ethical driver.

But, Chip, I haven't seen him cause any big wrecks. Not like
Gilliland or David Ragan last year, anyway.

That's true. And I'm not suggesting that he would cause a wreck (he has been involved in a few). He is ethical (well-trained by his uncle and father), but so is Rubens Barrichello.

Sometimes its hard to fight team orders.
