<snips...and the saga continues below)
Yeah, we may talk a little funny here, but we're good peoples by and
large.
Heh-heh...arrived here just over 4 years ago, and am finding that it's
catching! (See ref to 'yeppers' below)
I hadn't heard until I did the quickie Google search on it and found
that Wiki deal. I *may* actually start looking at some Blu-ray decks
now.
What are they priced at by now? Some were predicting during the flame wars
that the lack of competition would allow the winners to keep the price above
$300 for a lonnng time.
So, was that "today" Friday, or next Friday?
Sigh...today.
If today, I do hope it went well.
Herein resumes the saga...
Was told the 'sub' was scheduled 8 am to noon for the install. Nine came
and went and yers truly dug out the toll-free # for the installer (in
Kingsport) and learned that 8-to-12 was the 'window' for his arrival. Sigh.
Noon came and went and then *Bruce* (herein-after *B*) drives his clapped
out Chevy box-van lookin' thing past the driveway and screeches to a halt in
the busy road and clangs it into reverse when he sees me sitting in front of
the open garage door. Right front headlight duct-taped in position, parking
light assy below that is completely missing. *B* emerges, grubby tanktop,
tats, backward ballcap..."Hiyas, you Tom?" Sigh.
*B* paws through the contents of the 3 cartons deposited by the BBB, lifts
the ballcap, scatches the bald spot and sez, "You ain't gots the 6x8
multi-switch in hyar!" Sigh.
Showed him the packing slip *with* the 6x8 MS listed as shipped. *B*
scrabbles in his jeans for his pre-paid personal cell, grumbling about using
up his minutes and calls his Dispatch...gets placed on hold, grumbles a lot
more and starts telling me about his other three jobs waiting 'up the road a
piece' in Abingdon. Dispatch and *B* carry on for quite awhile before the
'not my chob, man' stuff begins. Of course, *B* has absolutely *NO* parts
of any sort in his box van. The office 'don't have none there, either'.
Sigh.
After dispatch sez they'll call him back (more grumbles about his 'minnit
phone'), we wait. I learn all about *B's* fiancee (for six years now) being
due to deliver their 'little feller' in two weeks...*B* wanted them to get
married but 'the fiancee' insists on being married in a nice wedding gown
and she's just 'too dayum big now to fit it up'. Sigh.
The 'minnit phone' chirps...Dispatch sez the retailer (Southern Pines, not
Pinehurst...same thing) has set up an overnight delivery of the 6x8 MS. Did
that mean *B* would be back Saturday to begin the install? Of course
not...'UPS don't do no Sattidy runs'. Sigh.
After I call the retailer and twist arms to get authorization for them to
re-pay me after I find/buy a 6x8 MS locally, I discover that nobody in the
Tri-Cities stocks the MF'ing 6x8 MS!! Then *B* comes up with "Say, I gotta
buddy that gots wunna dem thangs!" Oh? And would I be able to drive to
Kingsport to get it while *B* shows a customer up at Exit 10 how to use
their remote? Just give me directions, *B*. "Way-yull, dunno if Dispatch
would want me to be doing that." Sigh.
*B* goes to do remote 101 and I'm back on the phone...to his Dispatch, my
own self. Turns out 'Dispatch' is the owner, a woman owner and her office
help 'Sittin' ri-cheer next to me, Hon' is...wait for it...the fiancee!
Some more 'sumbuddy else fergot to pack it' stuff before I finally click the
end button. Sigh.
Much later, I get *B* back on his 'minnit phone' and do enough of a sales
job, that he has agreed to get his buddy's switch and be here Saturday
afternoon and I'll get the overnighted switch on Monday to re-stock his
buddy.
Hope you didn't pull a SimRacer and cut down 2 VERY LARGE
pine trees after the sub-tards came and went
Well, no...but it's still early days!! Have learned that in order to also
get the local channels here, I'll end up with not only the larger, heavier
Hi-Def oval 5-lmd dish, but also another 18-incher dual lmb mounted right
beside it! And...we're doing five rooms insteadda four and I just *know*
this ain't gonna end up a 'Free' install. The house is a 'split foyer' job,
essentially a two story...four tvs upstairs and ours in the 'master suite'
on ground level...wonder how many yards of RG6 this'll take?
"Yeppers"? lol You sound like my good friend and neighbor. He doesn't
say "yes" very much, usually just "yeppers".
*B* hasn't said 'yes', 'yep' *or* 'yeppers' very much...mostly just
'Way'ull, I dunno'...
Sigh.
