Don't worry about Villeneuve Nancy. Though its been a while, he has
run on ovals at speeds much higher than he will see at Dega. He is a
much smarter racer than most and though aggressive knows how to finish
races. JPM he isn't. He is much more likely to get caught up in the
big one than to start it.- Hide quoted text -
Howsoemever, aside from that minimal testing at 'Dega, he has never
raced in a heavy stock car without all the electronics he's used to,
and he's never raced in a pack of 43 (didn't even test in a pack of
43) and he's never driven the COT and he's never driven with a
restrictor plate, although that part of the equation shouldn't matter
a lot. If I'm wrong about this, I know you'll correct me. Most of
the experienced drivers in the garage think it's a big mistake for him
to make a debut in this particular race, and have said so. I hope
they're wrong.
All the drivers interviewed yesterday seemed to think that the pack
will begin and end with all 43 cars in it; that there won't be any
"drop back and come up front late in the race," and that in order to
win, a driver will have to start and stay up front.
In addition, every single driver is complaining how they can't see
through the car in front of them, which is going to be a huge
disadvantage when maneuvering the car. (JG being the king of mirrors,
I'm sure Letarte will have to add about a dozen more on the 24. LOL.)
They are also unsure how drafting will (or won't) work and since the
COT is infamous already for being hard to turn, they worry about how
it's going to behave in close packs.
Like I said, I'm hoping there isn't a Big One, and that's about as
good as I can make it.
