Roger Bannister - first under four minute mile. His legs were burned and
scarred horribly as a child, yet he refused to lose

Dwight Eisenhower - a Kansas farmboy who rose to command the greatest army
of all time and refused to lose WWII even though it was very losable

nor even . the russians had already defeated the germans a year before
normandy at kursk in july 43

Marie and Pierre Curie - two who faced the odds of radiation to discover
radium and polonium and give us the wonderful tool known as an X-Ray

and they died from radiation induced cancer

Franklin Delano Roosevelt - an adult victim of Infantile Paralysis (Polio)
who should have quit with just being the Governor of New York and live out
his remaining years in comfort, instead became the President of the United
States of America during a time when the future of this country was at
stake
during the Great Depression. He not only led us out of despair and changed
the face of humankind with his Social Security and Securities and Exchange
Commission, he also led us to victory in a World War over axis powers.

General Robert E. Lee, Commandant of the U. S. Military Academy at West
Point. Took a hopeless cause and stayed the course till the bitter end and
lost his citizenship and home in the process. He died a broken man about
five years after Appomattox. His citizenship was restored by President
Gerald Ford in 1976, more than a hundred years after his death. "With all
my devotion to the Union and the feeling of loyalty and duty of an
American
citizen, I have not been able to make up my mind to raise my hand against
my
relatives, my children, my home. I have therefore resigned my commission
in
the Army, and save in defense of my native State, with the sincere hope
that
my poor services may never be needed, I hope I may never be called on to
draw my sword....." Lee in a letter to his sister, April 20, 1861

lee was a cluekless fool who never understood what was happening and he was
defeated by the first decent general he faced U.S.granty

grant , a man considered a failure pre-war but who rose to command the
armies of the united states, saved the country and he faced 4 CSA armies, he
out right captured 3 , {including lee's} and drove off the other in total
rout {at chatanooga}
and whose humane terms healed the nation.
r.e.lee was a traitor who killed more americans than any other man.
he was a man who the first time he had a tough choice broke his oath of
allegiance to his country

how anybody can think lee is a hero is beyond me
