Well Stans record wasn't recognized for a number of reasons IIRC. It
wasn't through a measured mile.

both directions, within one hour.

Actually, the timing and speed was done completely by guesswork.
The intention was to use radar, but it gave a speed of 38mph,
having apparently tracked some other vehicle.
Stan did get the car through the sound barrier,
Virtually no-one beleives this. It's pretty unlikely he got much
over mach 0.9, even for an instant.
