<snip>
I think a problem for DEI with both drivers (KyBu or KK) is that they both look
too young to drink. Makes it tough to keep Budweiser around.
True, but have we yet seen anything that says conclusively that Bud *won't* move
with Junior?
Opinion: If the 8 goes to HMS with Junior, the chances of Bud going
with it are greater. If the 8 stays home at DEI, then Monster looks
better and better every day, based on the Bernstein deal over in the
NHRA (Kenny came back and they decided to leave Bud where it was on
Brandon's fuel car and put the big chartreuse M on Kenny's new
flopper. Congrats to KB on making it to the final round yesterday,
BTW. Not bad for an old man. lol)
Fact: All my sources are being real closed-lipped on the deal. We may
not actually *know* until they announce it what the number and sponsor
are going to be. All my peeps are parroting Jayski: Could be Bud,
could be Monster, could be Pepsi. They all seem to think that Sony
will be an associate, and possibly Wrangler (Remington and Drakkar
Noir as well). So reading between the unspoken lines, I think they're
going to have to work out a deal (or not) on the number before the
sponsors start to fall into place.
And of course, the seemingly not-talked-about companion story to this
is what is the fate of the CarQuest/Kelloggs deal that is already in
place for the 5 for next season? And really, exactly how willing is RH
to swap the 5 for the 8 when the 5 has as much or more history to him
than the 8 does to Junior?
I swore i wouldn't get into month's long speculation but Sim forces me
to speculate one more time--Rick Hendrick will not give up his emotional
attachment to his 1st car, the #5. DEJ should give up an emotional
attachment to the #8 which by the way was his GrandFather's #.
DEJ's Monster #5 should be a clean enuf break for him
to become his own man!
