Chase makes race off a possibility for contenders

CRU excerpt:
Jeff Gordon deserves praise for his decision to be with his wife,
Ingrid Vandebosch, if the birth of their first child comes on a race day.
This scenario shows another positive side of the Chase format. It gives some
drivers the option of skipping an event without ruining their chances of winning
the championship.
Gordon is almost assured of making the 12-driver playoff even if he misses one race
for personal reasons. He easily has enough points to stay above the 12-man cutoff.

CRU comment:
BS! It's very possible that 1 race can make the difference between
making The Chase & NOT making The Chase by a very small margin!
'04 JMcMurray missed the chase, '05 JGordon, '06 TStewart.

IF JG decides to miss his favorite race at Sears Point
forsaking numerous racin records, when not necessary,
I'll switch my allegiance to Jimmie Johnson.
Babies can be a dime a dozen especially for the rich,
but JG will never be able to pass this way again
establishing racin records.

BTW, I am a Father & was totally un-needed at the birth of my 2 Sons.

Cru.... your priorities are clearly different from Jeff's. Obviously
stats and records mean something to you. Perhaps they are meaningless
or a much lower priority to him, and this his life and his career, after
all. Being with his wife while she gives birth to their child is an
honorable thing to do and his decision to do so should be respected and
applauded by his fans. I actually hold him in a higher esteem now that
he has made that decision than I ever would have had he focused on
earning records.

BTW, I am a mother, and although I technically could have given birth
without the father in the room, I never needed him more than I did at
that moment.

Who's business is it anyway. If Jeff wants to miss a race, good for
him. If his wife says go race. Good for them. Frankly something
like this is much easier to do now with that awful chase. He can miss
a race and know its really not going to hurt him in the championship
run. Even if the race were in the chase, he should do exactly as he
and his wife decide and Dupont, Hendrick or anyone else that would
pressure someone in a situation like that should be simply told to
shut up.

On one more thing cragats to Casey. Good win for him and long
overdue. Wonder how long before we see insurance commercials with
Casey, and Julia the insurance companies nightmare with I must be
dreaming playing in the background. Mears family has long been known
as a class act from his dad Roger and his uncle Rick. Casey has done
nothing to change that reputation at all.
