Chase makes race off a possibility for contenders

CRU excerpt:
Jeff Gordon deserves praise for his decision to be with his wife,
Ingrid Vandebosch, if the birth of their first child comes on a race day.
This scenario shows another positive side of the Chase format. It gives some
drivers the option of skipping an event without ruining their chances of winning
the championship.
Gordon is almost assured of making the 12-driver playoff even if he misses one race
for personal reasons. He easily has enough points to stay above the 12-man cutoff.
CRU comment:
BS! It's very possible that 1 race can make the difference between
making The Chase & NOT making The Chase by a very small margin!
'04 JMcMurray missed the chase, '05 JGordon, '06 TStewart.
IF JG decides to miss his favorite race at Sears Point
forsaking numerous racin records, when not necessary,
I'll switch my allegiance to Jimmie Johnson.
Babies can be a dime a dozen especially for the rich,
but JG will never be able to pass this way again
establishing racin records.
BTW, I am a Father & was totally un-needed at the birth of my 2 Sons.
