Maybe. Just maybe. IF you take the line that Ginn is on the way up and
DEI has reached a plateau at best, or is going backwards at worst.
Well, that's the key point, isn't it. Earnhardt is leaving DEI
because he wants equipment that's championship caliber, and it's
hard to say Ginn is closer to that than DEI, even with the success
Mark Martin has had this year.
And is exactly my point. You and I seem to be in the minority in
thinking that Ginn is *ok* and that Martin's performances this year
are not indicative of the team's actual potential. IOW, I think MM is
making their stuff look better than it really is. The "mentor" factor
there would be awesome tho, between Marlin, Martin and Nemechek, if
they all hung around in some capacity.
And
me personally, am always leary of a team built primarily out of
another team's shop, like Ginn is built out of Hendrick Motor
Sports.
Worked well for Gibbs, tho. A few years with Hendrick engines, then
start your own engine program, and next thing you know both Labonte
and Stewart have championship rings.
Yeah, but that was over a decade ago. All their titles have come since
2001. That sort of time lapse would be a concern to Junior I'd think.
I don't care if he goes to RCR, so long as
he doesn't try to drive the #3. That is his dad's legacy currently
behind that number, not his.
I don't think it's coincidence that Childress is not saying much,
or apparently doing much, right now. He knows he's the best option
for Earnhardt.
It is the best fit provided Happy doesn't get more-popular-driver-envy
if Junior becomes a teammate. I think Burton would be cool with it
(and could probably actually mentor Junior a little bit too). The wild
card would be Bowyer. He has the talent, but his personality seems to
vacillate between nice guy and jerk at different times. They all do at
times I guess, but Bowyer's seems to come out in public more often,
IMHO anyway.
John.
