Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks

To call car racing a sport is pretty dubious. Wickepedia defines sport
as: "A sport consists of a physical and mentally competitive activity
carried out with a recreational purpose for competition, for
self-enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of a skill,
or some combination of these. A sport has physical activity, side by
side competition, self-motivation and a scoring system. The difference
of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of
individual (or team) skill or prowess."

The extent to which physical activity is involved (other than by the
pit crew) is pretty dubious. The owners and spectators, of course, are
as passive as a couple of good old fat boys from the south sitting on
their couches and drinking a beer.

"Athletics, also known, especially in American English, as track and
field or track and field athletics, is a collection of sport events,
which can roughly be divided into running, throwing, and jumping. The
word is derived from the Greek word "athlos" meaning "contest"."

Car racing is certainly not characterized by running, throwing, or
jumping (or even walking).

So it is not athletic and probably not even a legitimate sport at all.
NASCAR's popularity seems to be mainly in the southern states. So its
fans are basically ignorant, careless, fat, gross, slobs. I guess it
bothers me that the word 'National" is being used by them to make them
look like there is nationwide large scale facination with them.
