Was that when they shortened up the wheelbase?  I recall a bunch
of agonizing and moaning that the cars wouldn't be safe on the 
high-speed tracks (which turned out to be a total non-issue), but
not much grief about cost.

Of course, back then most teams only had one or two chassis anyway,
and they only cost about $5k to build.
