That's the first part of the Poole Rule.
When the Chase begins, the 500-point bonus would go back in effect:
for the first race won of the last 10 races, the driver would collect
500 points. This would make it extremely difficult for someone to
win the Chase without winning a race.
I don't think it would change the outcome of last year's Chase--one
win by Busch vs. four wins by JJ, with the difference coming in
consistency.
I have a suspicion that any points system will allow consistency to
beat wins. If you want the guy with most wins to win, let that be
the rule; decide other prizes by the points system.
