Monaco - Yet again Qualifying was the best day!
The race was boring as a very boring thing. I fell asleep!
While I agree completely that Monaco is a crappy track for racing, I
understand it's place in the calendar. History, glamour, money.
With a 20 round calendar, we can have one race, where the emphasis is
on the qualifying. Drivers love the challenge too, despite knowing
they can't overtake. It's a different kind of challenge, total
concentration.
It was also a tactical challenge. Alonso and Vettel benefittied,
Hamilton lost. Lotus/Raikkonen lost big time, but I studied the case
closely, and with their lack of speed, no strategy would have helped
them. The problem was speed and tyres.
It was also interesting to watch Kovalainen holding back Button, and
managing to hold that even after the stops. Brilliant job from Heikki
and Caterham.
So there are things to watch even if overtaking action is lacking.
It's time to turn Monaco into timed eliminations.
I'm all for slightly different formats in different races, but that's
a bit too extreme for me.
