commitment level at 100% during that year. I don't think it's fair to
call that dumping."
Why do you have to slag off Fred in those terms when in reality like
any other driver he's simply "leaving" or "changing" teams? Is
Barrichello "dumping" Brawn? Is Rosberg "ditching" Williams? etc etc.
There's a difference, ric, as you should know.
No there isn't, Paul, as you should know.
Firstly, show me where I've said that every driver that leaves a team
dumps it. You can't because I haven't.
It was a rhetorical question, for goodness' sake.
Now, let's talk about Fred. Renault took him on board, gave him a car
which he could take and make himself a World Champion. I take it you
don't dispute that?
Whoa. Yes, I do dispute that. Renault took him on board as a *reserve*
driver in 2002. They didn't have a WDC-capable car until 2005, by which
time he'd been helping develop it for three years. He was equally
responsible for their rise up the grid.
So what does he do? Takes the big bucks and takes
his number 1 to McLaren... no loyalty to his old team, notice?
He accepted Ron's offer, announced it to the team and stayed another
year at Renault, during which time he worked bloody hard and brought
them another WCC and WDC. That's what they pay him for, and he delivered
in full. He's no slacker, not like some others on the grid.
Thigs go wrong at McLaren, for whatever reason (I really don't care
whether it was his fault, Lewis' fault, Ron's fault, whatever). But
they give him a car capable of winning the World Championship. During
that journey he has problems, what does he do? Stick with the team and
try and sort things out? No, he dumps them and crawls back to the team
which gave him a huge leg-up to start with.
He was fired. Or he resigned. Whatever - it was mutual. Are you
seriously suggesting that it was possible to stay on at McLaren and sort
things out? In your dreams (more likely, nightmares). Ron didn't want
him any more anyway. I think you've forgotten just how bad things had
become.
Now instead of sticking with Renault and trying to repay some of what
they've invested in him he dumps them again and runs away to the Glory
team.
For God's sake, he's been there two whole years - not one, two - and
fought tooth and nail to drag that shitbox of a car higher up the grid
than it ever deserved to go. Everybody, even his detractors, says the
same.
Just how long *does* he have to stay there to satisfy Paul-B's idea of
loyalty? How about, say, eight years in all - eighty per cent of his F1
career? Will that do?
Again, it's been very clear for a long time that he was going to Ferrari
either in 2010 or 2011. Everyone was forewarned well in advance. It was
Ferrari that we were all waiting on, not Fred. What's disloyal about
that?
And don't put words into my mouth (which you seem to do wheneve I post
something you disagree with). Once again, either show me where I've
said, or even implied, that every driver that leaves a team dumps it,
or keep that sort of comment to yourself.
Crikey, JJBoulas was right about your comprehension problems.
