If you already know all this, apologies.

The original (a BBC tv Play for Today) was initially banned as too
violent. Later it was screened on the "ring main" video circuit for
staff. Having seen that the remake for channel 4 seemed strangely soft
by comparison. The homosexual strand was left out, it didn't feel as
risky. Channel 4 has taken an altogether different direction since
then. The BBC version has, of course, been aired too.

Interesting, thanks. I didn't already know that. I've just been downloading
the above file as it's been so long since I saw it. Nearly got it, it's a
slow torrent.
