How long :It seems they are allowing the release of 1/3 MJ/lap - that's bugger
The drivers are allowed to use the power as follows : 80hp for six
seconds per lap, or 40hp for 12s, or 20hp for 24s etc
all.
The rule is:
Energy released from the KERS may not exceed 400kJ in any one
lap.
Ah, same thing - more or less - I was rounding a little :)
It doesn't seem a lot to me.
The question is whether it is enough to make a difference.
It'll be interesting to see the difference between teams with it and
teams without it. Maybe even one car with and one without in the same
team - even more interesting.
A lot less than the energy dump of one
braking zone.
Efficiency is not key.
Which was one of the stated aims for introducing the technology in the
first place. It was only when I scribbled a few numbers down I realized
how pathetic it all is. It might have been better to allow the same
thing to be done with a 'boost button' allowing an extra 100rpm on the
engines or something and save the additional mass, complexity and safety
hazards.
Or full ahead and damn the torpedo's - you press the button and you turn
on the turbo charger. No f*ing around with fighting in translating energy
two different directions. Your penalty is you use more gas.
