Once you get rid of the aero, you don't have to get rid of the
engines, brakes, or anything else. Without downforce, acceleration is
not power limited but traction limited, so is cornering, and braking.
So you would see pilots struggling to cope with 800 HP engines trying
to get 500 HP tires hooked up. Braking distances go up 2.5-3X,
acceleration distances go up 3X, cornering speeds go down 1.9X. And
passing would be allowed by the physics of the situation.
Maybe I should have been clearer, I didn't mean for anyone to burn the
midnoght oil making up nimbers.
Wings for downforce are alright in my book but we need stricter rules
on their implimentation. Shaped underbellies with tail diffusers are
also necessary at this level of racing. Lets be realistic here, tyre
technology, as you eluded to, can't keep pace with engine power.
Where I want to see changes made is with all that *** sticking out
from every available square inch of body surface and all those little
winglets. It makes the cars look like my neighbour kids Honda with
blinky washer nozzles and fake hood scoops held on with m tape.
Give the cars a functional, aerodynamic shape with a front wing and a
back wing and knock all the other *** off, every last bit of it. And
if need be, mandate a common spec aero package.
