To explain his position, he compared and contrasted the incident with
one of hitting a wall while racing, which he explained *would* be the
driver's fault.
Personally, I think he is saying this in an attempt to make what he did
appear more "excusable" than Kimi's crash the race before.

Tell me, have you never done something that to an outside observer look
dumb, but only you know exactly why it happened?
Its a stupid thing, but I'll give you a personal example, although for
reasons that will become obvious, there was no independent observer.
Many moons ago, I was given a £50 note by my Mum. IIRC, it was to go out
and buy some hiking boots. I stuffed it in to my pocket, then went for a
piss. When I finished, I leaned forward to flush the lav. As I did that
the £50 note fluttered from my pocket down in to the lav. As that
happened I flushed. There was this weird bullet time thing that
happened. As I flushed I was watching the note flutter down and
basically flush away. All in slow motion. In the second all these
different thought went through my mind. Things like: don't flush, but I
did; grab it, but I didn't, etc. I was bizarre. There were many options,
all went through my head, but there result seemed inevitable.
Of course an out side observer would have seen all the things I could
have done. It would have been east you call me a cunt, idiot, twat etc.
I could have made the note more secure in the first place. I could have
not flushed. I could have caught it.
But only I know why I didn't. And in reality, I could never really
explain it.
This type of thing happens. I believe this quick flash thought, confused
reaction explains a lot of mistakes. It happens in split seconds and its
hard to explain. Not only could I explain (NOT EXCUSE) Hamilton's crash
easily like this but I also explains Schumacher's parking at Monaco.
Interesting I does not explain Kimi's Monaco incident. That seems to be
entirely different. The loss of grip was sudden and unexpected. Like a
mechanical failure.
Fault? In these circumstances, it doesn't really exist.
The outrage and emotion? That is usually a reaction to the result or
consequence. Why was I so pissed at Kimi in Monaco? Not because of
Kimi's driving, but because it wrecked Sutil's race. Why were Kimi fans
so pissed at LH? Because it robbed Kimi.

I'll just leave it at that.
Why by showing that we are all human and can't always adequately explain
our actions to others, you really do live up to your name trollop.
