WW2 and sport



Some are old enough to remember British deejay John Peel, who in
response to yet another World Cup thrashing of England by Germany,
quoted "So what if they beat us at our national game --- we beat them
twice at theirs."

BTW, I watched "most" of the 1966 WC, although I was only confusedly
aware of the last two goals, from my position on the floor under a
table in a bar in France ---
