In my middle class neighbourhood, I grew up with more than a few friends of
German decent who immigrated but were in the war on the other side. The Scot
next door married a Frauline that he met in post war Germany. Another friend
has been a career racing engineer with Porsche and AGR. His dad was in the
Wehrmacht. My father and his brothers were in the war, so were many of the
home owners who lived on my street in those days.

The Germans were never an issue, their past was behind them and no one looked
at them as an enemy. I'm still in contact with my old neighbourhood friends
after all those years.
