However in the news report I saw the judge did rule that he had a right to
privacy for such material which doesn't bode too well for the NotW in the
upcoming case. The judge also recalled all outstanding copies of the paper
in France. Basically he agreed with the British ruling that there's nothing
he could do about stuff that was already disseminated on the Internet.

Seems the French privacy laws are draconian.
I don't imagine the NOTW sells many copies in France ;-)
